NYC on Tuesday unveiled the NYC BigApps Competition, a contest for software developers and members of the public to create Web or mobile applications using recently released city data. For the project, the Bloomberg administration partnered with 30-plus city agencies to release more than 170 data sets, including information on city landmarks, Census figures and restaurant inspection results. The goal: for developers to build applications that will make life a little bit easier for city residents, visitors and businesses. 13 winners will be chosen to receive a total of $20,000 in cash prizes.
